Most of my growing up happened in the mountains of Colorado where I learned to love the wilderness and velocity. I received my first degree from CU Boulder and worked as a journalist before receiving a BFA in Graphic Design and Printmaking at California College of the Arts. Making books gives form to my curiosity. I am particularly interested in the intersection of scientific understanding and human meaning.
I live in Berkeley with a Vandercook in my backyard.
On Thursday afternoons, The Aspen Times came out. After school, I'd go into town and race through the streets selling newspapers.
At twilight, with quarters and dimes bulging my pockets, I'd visit the bookstores — even in that small town, there were three to choose from: Unicorn, Mill Street Station, and Explore Booksellers.
On their shelves I found Oz, Narnia and The Secret Garden; I met hobbits and ents, and discovered A Wrinkle in Time and A Wind in the Door.
Week after week, I would select a book to carry home and read.
My love of books comes from these worlds.
